Love Synastry

May 7, 2022

Synastry, or Relationship Astrology, will always continue to fascinate so long as there is love and romance in our world – safe to say, FOREVER.

While synastry encompasses all relationships, for today, I’m going to concentrate on love synastry.

Synastry involves the interplay between your natal planets and another’s. While the progressed planets do come into play, it’s the natal planets who will be there for the long haul.

In a chart overlay we see where each person’s planets fall into the other’s houses. This can tell us quite a bit if say, your partner’s moon falls in your 4th house of home, roots, foundation – you are likely to feel emotionally drawn to this person, as though they “get” and “know” you, and there is a great likelihood you will feel emotionally “safe” with them.

Of course, the 5th house of true love, children, creativity is where people scramble to look for planets and then the ever-coveted 7th house of marriage, committed relationships.

While all this IS necessary in determining attraction and compatibility, I find that once we establish the relationship between the planets, we need to take a penetrating look at the chart of the person with whom we are hoping to spend the rest of our life with…

Good synastry can be exhilarating and utterly blinding:  if the Moon and Sun are making great aspects, if Venus and Mars are in harmony, and if Saturn is present, making contact, gluing it all together – we need to slow our pulse and examine the other person’s natal chart.

I have been extremely guilty of not doing this for myself in the past. We tend to think in terms of how the other person affects us, and we them – but we need to see what our partners are bringing into the relationship.

For a man, how are the aspects to his moon? The moon in the chart represents the mother. Are there challenging aspects – squares and oppositions? How is/was his relationship with his mother? This has tremendous potential to inform the nature by which a man interacts in love relationships with women.

For women, we look can look to the Sun, as the Sun represents the father in the chart, and apply the same questions.

As a natal chart serves as an x-ray into a person’s early life, allowing us to see into someone’s past, it is important we gently get to know what went on, and how it’s still being processed. And while we should never endeavor to use aspects against someone, it is worth noting how the individual has dealt with those aspects. And continues to do so today.

There is nothing more admirable than someone born with challenging aspects who has dealt head on with situations and circumstances those aspects wrought, and evolved into a compassionate, in touch, tuned-in person. Often, it is this individual who can surpass the person born with trines and sextiles. There is triumph and reward in overcoming and continuing one’s evolution.

But do ask questions. A partner whose past is checkered with repeat situations, only slightly varied, is a partner worth standing back and observing before diving head-long into commitment.

Get to know the soul first. Synastry can be WONDERFUL but knowing the soul and getting a sense of this soul’s evolution with regard to their aspects can be time well spent, when considering a lifetime together.

I offer Natal Chart and Synastry Readings on this website if you would like to uncover more about your natal aspects and synastry with your mate or potential mate.
